Ear surgery can corrects abnormal ear protrusion, often on young children as soon as the ears have fully developed. Plastic surgeons generally perform an incision behind the ear, reshape the ear cartilage, and place a suture to maintain the new ear position.
A study conducted by doctors in Lithuania analyzed the success rate of different suture types used in Otoplasty. The 3-year study was conducted with 100 patients, who were divided into different groups based on the suture materials chosen for their ear surgery.  Groups included patients using PDS, Monocryl and Mersilene sutures.
After analyzing the data for each group, the doctors found that 3 patients in the PDS group and 3 patients in the Monocryl group had recurrence, or an unsatisfactory outcomes requiring revision surgery. Patients in the group using Mersilene sutures had the lowest rate of recurrence.

Welcome to our FAQ area. Here you will find answers to some commonly asked questions. While this section is not to be used in place of a consultation, it does provide valuable information. We invite you to read through the FAQ sections below and contact us for your consultation.
Our consultation fee is $125 and is applicable towards your surgical procedure. Here is why we charge a consultation fee and why a “free consultation” is not necessarily in your best interest. All too often, a “free consultation” for cosmetic surgery turns into nothing but a high-pressured sales pitch. Dr. Mickel believes a professional consultation should be a learning experience, an educational opportunity for you and not a “sales closing.”
